On the local forums a big deal was made of the new Pizza Hut opening in UD Town. You’d think from all the writings this would have been a major event.
This writer must admit however to being unimpressed. Think KFC atmosphere but with Pizza and you have nailed it. The cheese was not noticeably different from that of the competitor, even though it was stated in several other reviews to be somehow superior.
One factor that weighs heavily against my review being a good one is that I only got to try the thin crust product, as unfortunately the thick crust was sold out. I feel that if I were to try the thick crust, which possibly could have had more cheese, I might change my tune.
One thing I noticed is that the crowd from opening day has not died down yet, -this might be the first or second “weekend” the place has been open. I counted about 16 staff inside and 8-10 delivery motorbikes. I would say that both sets of those numbers will likely be cut in coming weeks.
Also, due to the pricing of the food, the competitor located in Central Plaza might turn out to last longer as most people who frequent UD Town do spend a bit less on average. There is also less parking to be had. In the delivery sector it’s hard to say what might happen.
All in all I would still say a home-made pizza with custom ingredients is far better. And, much to the luck of local restaurants, Pizza Hut’s product is easily beaten. Imagine a cheese pizza with just a touch of pesto and real feta cheese cooked golden brown. Winner!
Take if from a Chicago native, you are not missing anything here.
